Poposki, 16 September 2020The City of Buenos Aires, since 1996, is divided into 15 communes. These entities has no special names, but are numbered, from Comuna 1 to Comuna 15.
Comuna 5 includes the barrios Almagro and Boedo.
No special logo is known for Comuna 5.

Barrio Almagro is in the Comuna 5.
Emblem of Almagro : The basilica
surrounded by the symbols of the neighborhood: boxing glove, football, music and
a bouquet of violets, for confectionery. On the history of the emblem, we add
this text authored by Dr. Carlos Manuel Trueba, representative of the Board of
Historical Studies of the Almagro neighborhood whom I thank for sharing it with
me. Dr. Trueba was a participant in the act of replacing the Almagro
neighborhood on March 30, 2006, where he explained to all those present the
details of the neighborhood emblem:
At the initiative of the General
Directorate of Participation Systems and Intermediate Institutions of the then
Municipality of the City of Buenos Aires, today the Government of the Autonomous
City of Buenos Aires, public tenders were organized in the different
neighborhoods of the city so that each one had his emblem.
To carry out this
initiative, in 1991 the Director of that Organization, Mrs. Irma Rizzuti,
entrusted this task to Mrs. Martha Rodriguez, an official of the aforementioned
Directorate, who approached the neighborhood to propose the formation of a group
of prominent people in art, history, religion, among other disciplines, whose
purpose was to integrate the PROMOTING BOARD FOR THE CREATION OF THE ALMAGRO
NEIGHBORHOOD EMBLEM. Various intermediate institutions of Almagro were summoned
for this and that is how the Parish of Itatí, the Evangelical Methodist Church,
the Rotary Club of Almagro, the Navarro Center, the Almagro Commercial Chamber,
the Hospital Cooperator echoed that call. Durand, the Almagro Club, the Manuel
Solá School, the San Martín National School, the Board of Historical Studies of
Almagro and the Cumbre Cultural Center. The Promoting Board set its headquarters
at the aforementioned Club Almagro, which generously gave a place to deliberate.
One of the objectives of the newly created Board was, following the provisions
of the Regulations issued for this purpose by that Municipality, to designate
the members of the Jury who would intervene in the judging of the works that
were presented. Enrique Horacio Puccia, Juan Carlos Ferraro, Angel Imaz and
Alfredo Brañeiro and Pastor Sabanes were its members. Amado Armas, Lautaro
Fernández, Jorge Sánchez and Rodolfo Antonio Paz presented projects. On
September 18, 1991, the Jury chose the project that in their opinion was the one
that best represented the neighborhood. The project presented by Mr. Amado Armas
was the one chosen unanimously by the Jury, thus remaining, after its final
approval by the municipal authority, as the emblem of the Almagro neighborhood.
Mr. Armas, well-known sculptor and poet, former Salesian student, author,
among many other works, of the sculptural group located on the SW corner of Don
Bosco and Yapeyú that represents Don Bosco standing illustrated with majolica
that allude to the life and work of the santo, explains in the report added to
his project the meaning of his work. The emblem represents the culture and
spirituality, characteristics of the neighborhood, when it reproduces the
Basilica of María Auxiliadora y San Carlos, seat of the Parish of San Carlos,
which stands on the figure of an open book; football and boxing, important
sports activities in the neighborhood, are represented by a ball and a glove,
while the guitar, a cultural expression that distinguishes Almagro, it gives an
account of the presence in the neighborhood of authentic cultists of music and
city songs. One of them was the tango «Almagro» by Vicente San Lorenzo and A.
Timarni, masterfully interpreted by Carlos Gardel who, in his childhood, studied
at the Pío IX School, located in Yapeyú and Hipólito Yrigoyen. Finally, the
bouquet of violets evokes the traditional corner of Rivadavia and Medrano where,
to the happiness of the residents of the neighborhood and the entire city, the
"Las Violetas" Confectionery works.
The emblem was discovered on September
28, 1992, "Dia del Barrio de Almagro", remaining for some time on the SW corner
of Plaza Almagro. On March 30, 2006 it will be placed again in that same square
on the NW corner (Sarmiento and Jerónimo Salguero).

This is a work by Prof. Ernesto Grafman, arising from the contest organized by the General Directorate of Political and Legislative Affairs through its program for Strengthening Institutional Participation (FoPaI). The emblem was placed on a screen located in Boedo and San Ignacio on October 21, 2004. The renowned cartoonist and visual artist, a neighbor of the neighborhood, points out as founding landmarks of the neighborhood, its libertarian spirit, the existence of its clubs, the activities visual arts, music and letters.
The shield is divided into two fields: The upper one, white, highlights the
activity of Editorial Claridad, with a red flare emerging from the torch, which
symbolizes the ideology of the Boedo Group.
In the lower field, on a
gray-blue background, on the right, a palette is reminiscent of visual artists.
On the left, the open book and the pen with the Pacha Camac inscription recall
the traditional rock.
Between both elements, the tango, symbolized by the
bandstand, and two intertwined dancers complete the allegory.
Below, two
Argentine ribbons hold a red ribbon with the name of the neighborhood in blue.
