The municipality of Alagoa (2,709 inhabitants in 2010; 161.6 sq. km) is
located in south-southwestern Minas Gerais, 420 km of Belo Horizonte.
The coat of arms of Alagoa shows araucarias, common in the mountains, maize
symbolizing agriculture, a bovine's head symbolizing cattle breeding, and a
gold-panning miner symbolizing the origin of the municipality.
