Ebrach Coat of Arms

Shield Or a boar salient Sable holding a crozier Argent in bend by his muzzle, base Gules a bend wavy Argent.
Meaning:
The base is canting, referring to the little Ebrach River, The boar (German: Eber) is also canting and representing the Cistercian Ebrach Abbey, established in 1127 and secularised in 1802. The shield was parted per fess until 1938 and then the lower half was was diminished to a base. The colours red and white are those of the Bishopric of Würzburg, to which the town historically belonged. The colours yellow and black are alluding to the direct imperial rule of the abbey, which had however always been disputed.
