Efringen-Kirchen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a sinister facing lion rampant Or, at sinister Argent a crozier Gules.
Meaning:
The lion is alluding to the arms of the Lords of Rötteln, the crozier to those of the Bishopric of Basel. The bishopric had the fiefdom, owned estates and had special rights in the Medieval. The villages Huttingen and Istein were parts of the territory of the bishopric. All other villages had been ruled by the Lords of Rötteln until the 14th century. Efringen and Kirchen already merged in 1942 and the municipalty was enlarged in 1974, when eight minor municipalities were incorporated.
