Amorbach Coat of Arms

Shield Vert, a church Argent roofed Gules topped by balls Or seen from the South with ports and windows Sable, two round towers at the western façade, a rectangular tower at the eastern façade and a hexagonal ridge turret.
Meaning:
The church is a representation of the Romanic church of the Benedictine Amorbach Monastery, which already had been an imperial abbey before on behalf of the Franconian King Karl the Great. Amorbach gained the status of a city in 1253. The church was already displayed on the first city seal with prints since 1290, also on the second seal from the 14th century with prints since 1438. In between the shield had been crested by the wheel of the Archbishopric of Mainz. The wheel was abolished in 1819. The pattern often changed in details. The erroneous depiction with four towers was interpreted as part of the city walls. A sculpture over the gate of the city hall is a cartouche only displaying an initial "A".

The arms are traditional. The banner probably has never been approved officially.
