Tanta University was founded by Republican Decree No. 1468 of 1962 as a
branch from the University of
Alexandria with the faculty of Medicine only
and then it became an independent university named Central
(Nile) Delta
University in 1972. Then, its name was changed through Presidential Decree No.
54 of 1973 into Tanta University.
