Coat of Arms

image from Google (dead link)

The council informed me the coat of arms of Escuintla was designed by the first Municipal Chronicler, Jesús Cirilo Rivera Pérez; I found online that it was adopted in July 2008. He submitted it for consideration to the council. It is found in the Regulation on Police and Government of Escuintla, adopting it in Article 10. An image is provided in the regulation, which I describe as: Over a shield, the name "ESCUINTLA" is read in the form of an arch over it. Above it are five stars, indicating it as the capital of Soconusco in the Spanish colonial era. The shield has a blue field, with the sun's rays emerging from behind the mountains in the background. A waterfall from "La Chorrera" is depicted, with two platforms at the bottom over its water. On the left, a dog is seen over rocks: this alludes to its name, meaning "place of many dogs". On the right, another dog is seen next to the tower of its local church. On the sides of the church, fruit grow indicating its fruticulture. On the far left, a palm tree grows indicating it as part of the tropical region. At the top, the year 1486 is read; this is when Escuintla was founded by an indigene
