Meaning:
The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter, name giver and local patron saint. Inescutcheon and crescents are taken from the municipal arms.
The motive in chief, an escutcheon with roundels between two crescents, is borrowed from the municipal arms and is common to most communes in Óbidos municipality.
The aqueduct shown on the arms refers to an aqueduct built in 1570, which brought water to the town from southeast, throughout the territory of this commune,
which extended territorially from the town centre to the southeast, see this image
This coat of arms (and flag) were created by noted Portuguese heraldist José Bénard Guedes.

Shield Argent a bundle of three arrows Sable pointing upwards tied Gules, flanked by two cork oaks Vert peeled Gules, on a base wavy Vert two barrulets wavy Argent,
on chief between two upwards pointing crescents Gules an inescutcheon Azure ten plates ordered 2:3:2:3.
Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SOBRAL DA LAGOA".
Meaning:
"Sobral da Lagoa" means "cork oak wood (grove) of the lagoon", the latter being Óbidos Lagoon (Lagoa de Óbidos), the arms reflect these meanings in the oaks and green waves. Thus the lagoon is considered a part of the sea, because the commune has no direct access to the sea. The bunch of arrows stands for the local conterminous and once identical Catholic parish patron and eponymical Saint Sebastian. Inescutcheon and crescents refer to the municipal arms of Óbidos.
