Coat of Arms

Shield Vert, issuant from a mount Sable, charged with a cogwheel Argent, a band stand Or, in dexter chief an inescutcheon Azure charged with 13 plates ordered 2:3:2:3:2:1, in sinister chief a a corn cob Or leafed of the same. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "CANELAS".
Meaning:
The inescutcheon is symbolising the early peopling of the area since the 1st century BC. The corn cob is symbolising labour on the fertile fields around the town. The cogwheel is symbolising industries. The band stand is a local monument, which had been finished in 1907. The mount is alluding to the Serra de Negrelos also known as de Canelas.

Presentation of Canelas

Canelas is one of the 15 communes of the Vila Nova de Gaia Municipality, not affected by the 2013 mergers; it had 13 459 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 6,9 km².
