The Lafollette City Council voted Monday night to formally adopt an official city flag and seal which was created and designed by Campbell County Historian, Dr. Miller McDonald. McDonald Presented the flag to council members at last week's workshop, pointed out that a flag would give the city a greater sense of identity and instill pride. He offered the designs as a public service, looking ahead to LaFollette's 100th birthday in 1997.
The flag is designed with green motifs on a field of white. The words "City of LaFollette Tennessee," are inscribed in dark green within a circular field of light green. The center of the flag is comprised of a stylized "L," canted to form a triangle with a pine tree within, symbolic of American liberty. In green outside the double triangle are the words "Business," "Industry" and "Community," with the date 1896, the year of the city's incorporation, at the bottom of the circular inner field. Bellow the central circle in the lower field of the flag is a ribbon with the Latin words "In Nomine Domini," which means "In the name of the Lord."
