The Municipality of Chaguaramas, in the State of Guarico, changes its flag on

The municipal flag of Chaguaramas was selected on 23 July 2009 among 17
proposals submitted by the inhabitants of the municipality. The new flag was
officially presented on 24 July 2009 by the Municipal Council during the
celebration of the 226th anniversary of the birth of Simón Bolívar.
The flag, proposed by Gerardo Antonio Salazar (pseudonym, Ruperto Paz), the
young curator of the municipal library, is quartered blue-green by a thin white
saltire; in the middle, a yellow ring surrounds a landscape. The landscape is
horizontally divided into two equal parts, with a light blue sky lit by a round
yellow sun over a brown ploughed land. There is an arm holding a palm on the
left and two high-standing palm trees on the right.
White symbolizes the eternity of the paths that converge into our municipality.
Green represents the mountains, the vegetation and the palm groves. Blue
represents the rivers that geographically delimit our municipality. Yellow
represents abundancy and the past and present grain resources of the
municipality.
The arm holding a palm is a reference to St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the
municipality, the palm being here the symbol of the triumph of life over death.
The municipality was founded as San Lorenzo de Chaguaramas. The two palm trees
represent the origin of the name of the place, "chaguarama" meaning "a palm
tree" in the Cumanagoto Indians' language. The noon sun symbolizes Chaguaramas
as the stem of other villages of the State of Guárico, therefore its nickname,
"La Abuela Predilecta" (The Preferred Grandmother).
The ploughed land represents the plant and cattle ressources of our
municipality, which is one of the top producers of maize and sorgho of the
country. The St. Andrew's Cross symbolizes the "Paths' Cross", linking together
different villages, therefore the nickname of "La Encrucijada del Llano" (The
Plains' Crossroads) given to Chaguaramas. The yellow ring surrounding the
landscape symbolizes the protection
granted by the sun, our municipality being at the epicenter of the State of
Guárico.
