The municipality of Santa Lúcia (3,926 inhabitants in 2010; 11,686 ha) is
located 550 km west of Curitiba.
Santa Lúcia was established in the 1960s
by Orlando Luiz Zamprônio, tax collector in the town of Campanema. During one of
his voyages, he stopped near a freshwater source but had an eye injured by a
tree branch. He invoked St. Lucy and promised to name the place after her would
his vision not be impaired, which happened.
The municipality of Santa Lúcia
was established on 9 May 1990, separating from Capitão Leônidas Marques.

The flag and arms of Santa Lúcia are
prescribed by Municipal Law No. 7 promulgated on 5 March.
The flag, in
proportions 88 cm in width on 130 cm in length, is composed of a celestial blue,
red and olive green rectangle, charged in the center with a white lozenge
inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
Celestial blue represents the mild sky
that covers the entire municipal territory and the rivers with their waters. Red
represents fire and industry. Olive green represents fields and hope. White is
the symbol of peace, friendship, purity, innocence and truth.
The coat of
arms in the center of the lozenge represents the municipal government while the
lozenge inscribing it symbolizes the town as the seat of the municipality. The
stripes represent the municipal power that expands to all parts of the
territory.
The mural crown that surmounts the shield represents nobleness
and the three powers, Executive, Legislative and Judiciary.
Maize, soybeans,
beans, wheat, sugarcane and tobacco represent the main crops in the
municipality.
The bovine represent livestock, the pig represents pig farming,
and poultry birds represent aviculture.
The town's skyline represents
progress.
The rays represent the sun and life;
Blue represents the sky and
rivers with their waters.
Green represents fields and hope.
Yellow
represents wealth.
Red represents fire and industry.
"05/09/1990" is the
date of creation of the municipality.
