The gridiron is the symbol of Saint Laurentius, the church patron of the Ittingen Charterhouse (which is in the municipality and whose emblem was adopted). The grapes are canting for Weiningen. The colours black and white refer to the affiliation to the former jurisdiction of the Ittingen Charterhouse.
