Shield Or, a lion statant Gules, crowned and tongued Azure, on top of a triplemount Azure.
Meaning:
The first city seal was made around 1250. Prints existed since 1277. They already contained thelion of the Counts of Calw. The lion had always been crowned, sometimes standing on a triplemount, sometimes on a quadruple mount. The first coloured image of the arms from 1535 already displayed the current pattern. Despite of minor changes the arms remained the same. The rulers of the city frequently changed. In 1345 it became a dominion of the Counts of Württemberg completely. But the arms were not changed.
