Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent parted by a centred facetted cross Sable, at sinister parted per pale dancetty of four points of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
Rannungen was first mentioned in 777, when it was donated to the Fulda Abbey by Emperor Karl the Great. St. Bonifaz, patron saint of the abbey, is also patron saint of the local parish church. The black cross is referring to these facts. The sinister half displays the arms of the Lords of Herbildstadt, a Franconian kin of noblemen. They had been vassals of the abbey.
