Sankt Englmar Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a pale Argent charged with a fir Vert on top of a mount of the same, at dexter a palm frond Argent, at sinister an axe of the same.
Meaning:
Fir and mount are referring to the location of the village in the Bavarian Forest. Axe and palm frond are referring to St. Englmar, name giver and local patron saint of the village. The palm frond is the symbol for all martyrs. The axe is his personal attribute. Due to a legend the saint lived in a nearby hermitage around 1094. A servant of the Count of Bogen slayed him in January 11oo by an axe and hid the saint under brushwood. The dead body of the saint was found unscathed at the next Pentecost. The search for the body is celebrated every year on Whitmonday. The tinctures silver and blue are those of the Wittelsbach kin, rulers of the area since 1242.
