Bordány is a large village in Mórahalom district of Csongrád-Csanád County, in the Southern Great Plain region of southern Hungary, located 20 km from Szeged.
The Bordány area was inhabited in the oldest times. During the Roman period, it was inhabited by Sarmatians,
who carried on lively trade with the inhabitants of Pannonia from their settlements.
After the Hungarian Conquest, the ancient settlement between the Danube and Tisza rivers, inhabited by Hungarians,
was settled by Cumans in the 1240s after the destruction of the Tatar invasion on the site of the ancient fishing village.
The ancient name of the settlement is Bordán, the origin of which is unknown, perhaps from a surname derived from the South Slavic word – prudan (useful, salutary).
After the Turkish invasion, the area was purchased by the Teutonic Knights from Emperor Leopold I in 1702.
The population was only its tenant, but with the redemption (Redemptio) in 1745 it became free again.
In 1950, it became a municipality with independent administration, and was named Bordány after its largest vineyard.

The flag of the settlement is emerald green. (The green color not only refers to the Great Plain character of the settlement,
but also corresponds to the color of the flag of Csongrád-Csanád County, which also expresses the territorial location of the settlement.)
The coat of arms of the settlement is placed in the center of the flag. Ratio is 1:2.
The flag was originally adopted by Local Government Decree No. 5/1993. (III.1.), the current Local Government Decree No. 18/2014 (XII.31.) issued on 31 December 2014.

The coat of arms of Bordány is a blue shield divided by a red ribbon, the field above which is divided in two by a slit.
In the right field, golden sun rays emerge from behind a red grape bunch and green leaf.
(There was once a famous grape-growing region in the area of today's Bordány vineyard, from which, according to sources, the name of the entire village comes from).
In the upper left field, the golden right hand of our state founder King Saint Stephen is seen raising a golden double cross
(This is intended to indicate the existence of a full-length local bronze statue, expressing that Saint Stephen is traditionally the patron saint of the village).
In the blue field below the ribbon, a golden-glazed church with black door and window linings, a red roof and a red tower helmet is seen.
The tower is on the right side of the shield. (The church refers to the village's former name of Dudás-kápolna, and then from 1910 Kistemplomtanya).
The shield shows a slightly stylized version of the Hungarian Holy Crown, in a composition close to the original colors.
(The crown refers to the fact that the settlement was an árpád-era village in the 10th and 11th centuries).
The shreds on the right and left are red and gold. (This coat of arms symbolizes belonging to the former Kiskundorozsma).
Bordány's coat of arms reflects the state at the time of creation: the agricultural product considered the most important,
the grape, a detail of the statue of Saint Stephen, which was inaugurated at the same time, and the perspective view of the current church.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Decree.
