Indonesian vexillologist Marcel Darmanto notified me that the province not only changed their flag to have a gold background, the coat of arms of the province was changed as well in May 2021.

Former flag

North Kalimantan is Indonesia's newest province, formed on 25 October 2012. The flag is blue with the arms on it centred.
