Buq'ata is situated in a plain surrounded by mountains and therefore it looked to its founders as situated in a valley (in Arabic: Baq'a'a) hence its name. It is situated on the feet of the former volcanic Mount Hermonit. In the area there many apple plants, hence the apple at the emblem. Local Council since 1982.
