I watced the news from channel 1. There was an interview with
the chief Ashkenazic Rabbi of Israel and behind him there was the
flag of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
The Chief Rabbinate of Israel is the highest Rabbinical institute
of the state of Israel. It includes the Jewish religious courts
system, the kosher certifications, appointments of rabbis and
religious judges etc. It operates according to the Chief Rabbinate
Act of 1980. It is headed by two Chief Rabbis (Ashkenazic and
Sefaradic).
The Chief Rabbinate was founded in 1921 in order to replace
Ottomans' Hakham Bashi (initiated in 1835).
The flag is white with the emblem in blue.
