Left-wing Federation (Federazione della Sinistra, FdS)
- 2009 pattern
This is a variant of the flag of the Communist and
Anti-capitalist List (Lista Comunista e Anticapitalista), which I
first became aware of at rally held on December 12, 2009.
In July, 2009, the coalition previously known as Communist and
Anti-capitalist List founded a federation and changed name The
three main member parties are the same ones as before; instead
the United Consumers movement (Consumatori Uniti) stepped out, so
its name was dropped from the flag, and the space left was filled
with the words 'LAVORO E SOLIDARIETÀ' (Labour and Solidarity),
which is the motto of a union-based association that joined the
federation as a fourth member, and whose full name is
Associazione 23 marzo Lavoro-Solidarietà (March 23
'Labour-Solidarity' Association). Note that the two words are
separated by a dash in the association's name, whereas they are
separated by 'E' (and) in the flag. The rest of the pattern was
left unmodified, although in order to improve the arrangement of
the lettering in the outer part of the logo, all the remaining
words were slightly rotated in clockwise direction.

Left-wing Federation (Federazione della Sinistra) -
2010 pattern
This is a further variant of the same pattern, which I
first became aware of at a rally on March 12, 2010, although on
the party's posters and leaflets it was already featured since
late 2009.
At the European Parliament elections held in June 2009, no
representative of the Federation (by that time still called
Communist and Anti-capitalist List) was elected; so towards the
end of the same year GUE/NGL (for "European United Left /
Nordic Green" parliament group) was dropped from the flag. A
rearrangement of the lettering in the outer part of the logo took
place: now the words are 'SINISTRA EUROPEA' (European Left)
above; 'SOCIALISMO 2000' on the left; 'LAVORO - SOLIDARIETÀ' (no
longer separated by an 'E', but by a dash) on the right; 'per la
FEDERAZIONE' (for the Federation) below, with the first two words
spelt in lowercase freehand script. Only the words below are
still spelt in bold letters, whereas all the others appear
thinner than in the previous versions of the flag.
The Left-wing Federation will take part in the forthcoming
regional elections, scheduled on March 28-29, 2010.
