Located in Shinagawa City Tokyo and established in 1946. The embroidered ceremonial flag has navy blue background with a silver and gold emblem in gold fringe. The university flag has navy blue background with a white and yellow emblem in the center. The emblem of Showa University is a "lily. The origin of the emblem dates back to 1946, when Showa Medical College, the predecessor of the university, was upgraded to Showa University of Medicine. An internal contest was held for the establishment of the insignia of the Showa Medical School Preparatory Course. This neat and beautiful lily was chosen from among the entries. It was immediately designed into the badges of new students and presented to them. Later, in 1964, the university established the long-awaited School of Pharmacy and changed the name of Showa Medical School to the current Showa University. At that time, some modifications were made, and since then, the school emblem has been a lily design with the university name. Today, even the affiliated schools are unified under the emblem of the lily. The university hopes that the founding spirit of "Sincerity and Consistency" and the neat beauty of the lily will be harmonized beautifully in human education.
