Shield Argent, a tower Gules masoned Sable between two wings Vert, in chief an impending Latin cross Sable between two wheat ears Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "VILA DE ALA" (left image above) or "VILA DE ALA - MOGADOURO" (right image above).
Meaning:
The name of the commune means "town of wing(s)". The wings thus are canting elements. The word "ala" means in current Portuguese "wing" only in metaphoric sense (architecture, military, etc.), but Old Portuguese and/or cultural influence from Castillian origin might mean this is rather meant to mean the proper sense (in normal Portuguese: "asa").
