Coat of Arms

[Torrozelo commune CoA (until 2013)] image by António Martins-Tuválkin andSérgio Horta, 14 July 2025

Shield parted per fess, at dexter Argent two armillary spheres Azure arrayed in pale, at sinister Azure a pillory Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "TORROSELO". A variant (see right flag image at top) shows also a very different rendering of the pillory, more stylised, and, most importantly, the spheres as Or, instead of Azure, on the marshalled Argent field; additionally the spheres are topped with crosslets Gules, likely patty.
Meaning:
The pillory is a representation of the local pillory of the fountain of the Moors (Pelourinho da Fonte dos Mouros), not described as Argent but as "made of stone&qunot; (Portuguese: de pedra).
While the previously reported version was likely rejected by the CHAAP for having its shield parted per pale, which goes against the law about local heraldry in Portugal, this (earlier) version incurrs additionally in the "sin" of contradicting the Rule of Tincture — a basic precept of heraldic design in general, proscribing i.a. golden elements on a silvery background, as in this case, and also a requirement of said law (here we can replace the untranslated "Iluminura" of Jorge Candeias by "Rule of tincture", I think). José Quelhas Bigotte refers to an unclear historical origin of these arms, dating back to 1514.

This commune didn´t have its coats of arms and flag offcialised before its dissolution.
There is however evidence of unofficial use of a flag and coat of arms by the communal government namely this high relief metalwork plaque and official communal stationery used in edicts and other documents

Coat of Arms

Shield Or three bay laurel twigs in pale Vert ordered 2:1, in chief a scallop Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and short white scroll, in Bénard Guedes style, reading in black upper case serifed letters "FOLHADOSA".
Meaning:
The word "folhadosa" is a cognate of "folha", meaning "leaf" — the arms are thus partly canting. No idea about the scallop: The patron of the catholic parish this commune was derived from is not St. James, nor the communal territory (strewn as it is up the mountains) includes any stretch of the Way of St. James.
