Small, Tungusic nation of the Russian Far East and Northern China.
Their language belongs to the Manchu-Tungusic branch
of the Altaic languages.
In Russia, they were formerly known as "Goldi".
Now, they live primarily in the Khabarovsk Krai and number 12,160 (2002).
The written standard of Nanai language was developed in 1930s
in the USSR by Valentin Avrorin.
It is still taught today in 13 schools in Khabarovsk Krai.

Flag: "a rectangular piece of cloth of blue color in the center of which a gold (yellow) disk of the sun with three black silhouettes of soaring cranes is placed.
The width of the flag to its length is 2:3
The ratio of the diameter of the sun disk image to the width of the flag is
2,5:3.
Raising the flag is required on the buildings hosting the Assembly of Deputies, the administration of the Nanai District and on the buildings of the structual units of local government of the Nanai District.
The flag of the Nanai District is registered in the State Heraldic
Register of Russia
under # 3071.

Emblem:
"Heraldic shield in the French form.
The shield is blue with a gold (yellow) disk of the sun placed on it.
Within the disk are three black silhouettes of soaring cranes,
and at the bottom of the shield, two gold (yellow) images of the Nanai
national ornament.
Color yellow (gold) is the color of the sun, a symbol of justice, generosity,
wealth of natural resources of the Amur region, as well as the color of Asian
skin hue of the Nanai people.
Color blue (azure) - a symbol of beauty, softness, greatness,symbolizes
the color of the sky and water.
Color black - a symbol of wisdom, tranquility, stability. It is a traditional
color in Nanai ornamental art.
The emblem reflects the history, national traditions and characteristics
of the area as the territory of the homelands of Nanai people, whose name
the district bears.
Sun and Cranes are common and similar to the Asian and Far Eastern
symbols.
The direction of the flight of the cranes upward symbolizes the aspiration
of the region to prosperity and further socio-economic development.
