Coat of arms of Brda - Image by Željko Heimer, 2 December 2016
Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] describe the coat of arms of Brda as in the shape of a French shield. The hills (brda in Slovene) makes the arms canting. The grapes recall the important local wine production. The
tower is not identified as any particular historical tower, but is
described only as a medieval tower. The five-towered mural crown represent the number of inhabitants, between five and ten thousands.
The "enriched version of the coat of arms" includes as supporters a local
man and woman (Bric and Brika, these are the names for local
inhabitants) clad in 19th century garments. The rhyme is by Alojz
Gradnik (1882-1967), nicknamed the poet of the Gorica hills (Goriš:ka Brda) or the poet of love and death, also a judge, a
politician and a translator.
