According to the Thai Ministry of Interior in 2000, the flag of Mae Hong Son
province is horizontally divided dark brown / blue /dark brown (~ 1:3:1) with a
representation of the provincial seal in the center of the flag, including the
name of the province on a yellow label. The provincial flag can be seen on the

provincial seal, "Rup chang nai thong nam", shows an elephant in the water as a
reference to the founding of the town by Lord Kaeo of Ma when he was sent to
capture elephants for the Lord of Chiang Mai (1825-1846).
