ADT Security Services is an American corporation that provides residential
and small business electronic security, fire protection and other related alarm
monitoring services in 35 countries. It was established on In 1874, 57 district
telegraph delivery companies affiliated and became "American District Telegraph
Company". It is the largest security company in the United States and Canada. It
is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. In 1909, Western Union and ADT came
under the control of American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) (official
website: ). In 1987, British company Hawley Goodall bought ADT Security
Services. As a result Hawley changed its name to ADT Limited. In July 1997 the
company is purchased by Tyco International in a reverse takeover (by ADT
Limited). In early 2010, Tyco International announced that it was acquiring
Brink's Home Security Holdings, (operating as Broadview Security) and was
merging the company with its ADT brand name. ADT became independent again on
October 1, 2012. In 2014, it acquired the Canadian company Reliance Protection
Security Services. In February 2016, the company was acquired by Apollo Global
Management in a leveraged buyout and also merged with Protection 1.
