When the Trump Administration threatened to cut off Federal funding to cities or states hosting "Sanctuary Cities" - cities who refused to have their law enforcement officers seek out and arrest undocumented illegal aliens - in California an interesting grass roots flag practice has been noticed. On homes that once proudly displayed the national flag in the past, the practice of replacing the Stars and Stripes with the California Republic Flag has become a quiet protest of the federal government's demands.
Besides using the normal California State Flag these two interesting variants have been displayed in several locations [including on my flag pole].
