Crofton is a planned community and census-designated place located in northwestern Anne Arundel County. The community was founded as a golf community in the 1960s, as it's centered around the Crofton Country Club. It got it's name from Crofton, England, as it sounded like a pleasant name for a peaceful community.
The flag was unveiled by the Crofton Civic Association on March 27, 2026 as part of a flag contest. The flag consists of the Maryland state flag, albeit much lighter on the color scheme. In the center is a cardinal which is about to perch on a Cherry Blossom branch, which is representative of the local Cherry Blossom Festival. Above the cardinal is the community name, and the establishment year of the community is under the branch.
