Description of the flag

The Sandoval County flag was adopted in 1992 for the New Mexico capitol rotunda display. Sometime within the past 15 years a fully colored version started to be used at county offices, esp. the courthouse. The seal, in its outer ring, depicts the full county and state name, with a sunburst below each A. The inner circle depicts the encounter between cultures; a Spaniard with his rifle is to the lefthand side of an Indian holding a basket. At the very left are pioneers in a wagon being carried by oxen. In the background is the desert environment, a river, a bush, the mountains, sky, and a Zia sun symbol watching over.
