Brownies design city flag

Feb. 14 was Valentine's Day for most people, but for members of Brownie Troop 185 here it was Flag Day too. Saturday morning they presented a city flag, which they'd designed, to Prineville Mayor Riley Allen. The flag, which was formally adopted by the city council Tuesday night, was part of a troop project, according to Troop Leader Jerri Wine. The group plans to attend the Girl Scout Bicentennial Fling in Redmond Feb. 21 and each troop is to bring a flag.

When the girls found Prineville didn't have a city flag they set to work. The banner the designed incorporated the recently adopted city seal and chose the blue and gold as the surrounding colors, for Crook County High School and the State of Oregon. Triangles of beige and red, earth colors, decorate the flag's corners.

Troop members include Teresa Wine, Samantha Lyman, Val Korouch, Nancy Whitier, Chris Korouch, Patience Rigney, Kathy Gray, Darcy Dibble, Anna Meats and Gina Moore. Virginia Meats serves as assistant troop leader, and Barbara Ballenger, former troop leader, initiated the project.
