Description of the flag

The City of Pigeon Forge Flag was created as a result of the dedication of our city's Patriot Park on July 4, 1991. It was the culmination of the tidal wave of patriotism which swept over America as a result of the conflict in the Persian Gulf, patriotism which, hopefully will not diminish with passing time.

Patriot Park isn't merely a memorial to Tennessee Veterans or the Smoky Mountains way of life. It is a recreational area dedicated to life in the fifty United States and what it stands for. That is the reason behind the "Walk of Flags", a walkway meant to be informational as well as patriotic. The flag of every state is flown here, placed in the order in which they entered the Union. When we were planning Patriot Park, we realized that we didn't have a city flag to proudly fly with those representing each of the fifty states. Thus, we consulted our youthful citizens in the middle and primary schools asking each to design the emblem he or she would like to see flying over Pigeon Forge. We weren't looking for artistic execution, just ideas. There were a number of winners following a careful selection process, and the resulting designs were then handed over to nationally acclaimed artist Jim Gray for incorporation into a final design.

The emblem you see flying proudly next to the American and Tennessee flags in our park is representative of life in Pigeon Forge and the Smokies. The four squares, two blue and two white, represent the four seasons. Within each square are symbols of each season; dogwood blossoms for spring, a brilliant sun for summer, colorful leaves for fall and snowflakes for winter. The center crest includes all the things which represent the City of Pigeon Forge, the mountains, trees, crystal clear streams, a forge and a graceful pigeon.
