The Band

Ewiiaapaayp Band of Kumeyaay Indians but, they are also called by their old (Spanish) name; Cuyapaipe Band of Mission Indians, until the Bureau of Indians Affairs agree to their request to officially change their name. Besides, 'Cuyapaipe' is still easier for the palefaces to pronounce than the native tongue-twister. BTW: 'Ewiiaapaayp' means 'Leaning Rock' in the Kumeyaay language.

Established in 1893
Location: Southeastern San Diego County (68 miles East of San Diego) in the Pine Valley and Laguna Mountains, near the Town of Alpine, CA.
Area: 4,100 acres
Population: @ 12 of which 2 reside on the reservation.

The only economic resource of the tribe is water, but, soon, they will have their own casino with 1,000 slot machines and be on the way to riches.

The Flag

The flag is horizontally banded black-white-red, with a native instrument on the center, showing a mountainous scene.
