While aboard a British warship being bombarded throughout the night of September 13, 1814, Francis Scott Key was so overwhelmed to see the flag at Fort McHenry on the morning of the 14th that he wrote the Star Spangled Banner. This reproduction features a painting of Key as he first sees Fort McHenry, a brief historical background of the event, the Star Spangled Banner lyrics in Key's handwriting, and his signature.
